How do I know God answers prayers, even if nothing happens? I've asked God to give me a sign that He is hearing me, but He hasn't. Sometimes I even wonder if it's worth it to keep on praying.

Prayer is one of our greatest privileges as God’s children, and even if God doesn’t seem to answer your prayers at first, don’t stop praying. God loves you, and no prayer goes unanswered.

Jesus once told a story about a poor widow who repeatedly asked a corrupt judge to do what was right. (You can read it in Luke 18:1-8.) Repeatedly the judge refused–not because her request was wrong, but because he just didn’t care. But because of her persistence, he eventually gave in and granted her what she deserved. In a far greater way, Jesus said, God (who is righteous and does care for us) hears the prayers of His people, and we must never give up.

But let me add two things. First, realize that sometimes God is actually answering our prayers when we don’t realize it–and the reason is because His answer may be “No” or “Wait.” Yes, we think we know what’s best for us–but God sees the whole picture, and sometimes He lovingly refuses to give us what we request, because He knows it isn’t according to His perfect plan.

Second, remember that we have the privilege of coming to God only because Jesus Christ died for our sins. Have you given your life to Him? If not, let your first prayer be one of confession and faith, asking Him to come into your life as your Lord and Savior.

Thank you for the encouraging words. Sometimes when you are going through and it seems to never end, you feel like everything you know about God doesn’t apply to your life because nothing seems to be happening for the better. Again thank you and God Bless.

  2. Philip mwaura says:

We may also fail to receive what we want because of the motive of our we must check on our motive while praying

  3. Kenyon Pfaff says:

For 8 years we have been a devoted christian, me and my wife are deeply involved in our church. 8 years ago I lost my job. For 25 years before that I always had a good job, I was only out of work 2 yrs
of the 25. Now after devoting my life, I have worked two yrs in eight. The only thing I have prayed for
is a good job again, something you must have. NOTHING, NOTHING, I do not understand. Just a job.
This is really putting a major strain on me and my wifes faith.

Sometimes it is difficult to know why these things happen. I myself have faced a similar situation and when I hit rock bottom, I try to hold on to Jeremiah 29:11. His (God’s) plans for us are of good!! When nothin seems in your favour, hold on to this verse. 8 years is a long time but it takes only a couple of seconds for God to change your life around. at the end of the day just hold on to your faith and know that you will not lack because he is working something out for you – the best by the way because apparently, He never has a bad plan :-).

I’ve prayed for my son for 14 years…he keeps getting with the wrong people and actually easily influenced. He was saved when he was 10..and again in a Christian rehab…..I know that God can help heal his broken spirit and addiction, but I still worry.

  5. Ekong J Ekong says:

God is still answering our prayers! Psalm 66:18 “If I regard iniquity….. Many may think that God does not answer prayer or delay in answering prayers, let us check our lives. Are living our lives the way He wants us to live. The bible in the book of Isaiah 59:1 “but Your iniquity has seperated you and your God…. If we are dillegent and observe to do his will, we will eat the good of the land.

  7. Dave says:

If I pray and there is no God I have lost nothing……..

  8. Dave says:

1 day to god is equivalent to our 100 million years …. Sometimes when we pray he says “hold on I’ll get to you in a minute………

  9. Vicki Lawson says:

I was baptized when I was 8. I know I have sinned and ask God to forgive me. Life seems to be very hard for me but never has the pain been so severe. Many times, I wish that God would let me die.

    1. Walt Bales says:

Vicki, I am so sorry you are in such a difficult time of life. I know I’m a stranger, but I’m also a fellow believer in Christ. I want you to know, that I am praying for you right now, and that you are never alone in your struggle. I am certain that God will get you through, and that your suffering is not in vain. I want to encourage you to hang on, and keep casting your cares on Him, because He cares for you, and although it may not seem so, you have a lot of brother’s and sister’s who care to. I replied to your comment, because I felt compelled by God to do so.

  10. Travis says:

So when I ask for my body and finances to be healed it’s not the right time for god to answer those prayers. I am worn out asking god to heal my back. I know he already knows all my problems and I have a lot of faith that he can do with tahr said I don’t understand why he will not heal me.

    1. Idowu George says:

      Dear Travis,

It’s unfortunate you feel like this about God and His ability or willingness to heal or hear us. I am a christian, just like you and also believe and been praying for sometime for the healing of my body and those of my wife and kids. It seems He has not heeded me yet, I am prepared not to stop in my requests. Remember the Syro-Phoenician woman in Mark 7: 24- 30, despite the reference to her as dog by The Lord Jesus, she persisted.

Ultimately, I want you to remember Daniel in Dan 10: 12- and how his answers were delayed for 21 solid days but he was never daunted as he continued in his pleading with The Lord. Just as I am not giving up and will continue to persist in the place of prayer till I have received from Him, I want to encourage you to also do the same. Our God is faithful, He will never lie and at His own time, in His own way, He will make all things beautiful. All you just need do is tarry for it…if it seems late, it will never be late, He is a God that enters His temple suddenly. I pray that He will meet you at the very point of your need. Amen. But please confess your sins too and forsake them. Shalom.

    2. Michael says:

      God Bless you Travis!
