You Can Help Save The Nuban People

By   •   April 24, 2012

I recently returned from a trip to the Nuba Mountains of Sudan, and saw firsthand the brutality these people are suffering at the hands of their own government.

The Nuban people are facing extermination as Sudanese armed forces pound them with bombs, tanks, and ground forces. The victims of these savage attacks have fled their villages, and are hiding in caves in the rugged hills.

Their living conditions are deplorable. They are eating whatever they can find to survive, including insects, grub worms, tree bark, and roots. They are severely malnourished, and on the brink of starvation.

The government of Sudan has barred relief workers from entering Nuba, making it nearly impossible to provide humanitarian aid.

BGEA’s sister organization, Samaritan’s Purse, is committed to doing everything possible to help the Nuban people and others who are suffering because of Sudan’s genocidal campaign. But they need help.

I’m calling on everyone reading this to ask the United States to intervene to stop the slaughter of the innocent Nuban people. Your voice matters. Contact the White House, your senators, and your representatives. Express your outrage over what is happening. Tell them to call on Sudan President Omar al-Bashir to halt the campaign of violence, and to establish a humanitarian corridor in the Nuba Mountains so that aid can be delivered.

Urge your family, your friends, and your church members to get involved. I want at least 100,000 people to contact congress and make sure the Nuban people are not forgotten.

The situation in the region is very grim, and will only get worse unless action is taken.

After becoming an independent nation following decades of civil conflict, South Sudan President Salva Kiir told me his country does not want more violence.

President Kiir may want peace, but President Bashir seems determined to start a war. He has publicly stated that recent events have “revived the spirit of jihad” in his country.

I was accompanied to South Sudan by Fox News journalist Greta Van Susteren, who has been a strong advocate for the work of Samaritan’s Purse. Read her blog for more updates about what is happening in this troubled region.

Please keep the Sudanese people in your prayers. Now more than ever, people in Sudan and South Sudan need to know the Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ.
