Phillips, Craig & Dean — Christmas Reflections

By   •   December 9, 2009

Phillips, Craig & Dean have been making music together for nearly twenty years. In 1991, friends Randy Phillips, Dan Dean and Shawn Craig went to Nashville to do a concert for a record label. They signed the following year, and their first album was released several months later.

Nearly twenty years of music together means many musical Christmas memories to recount.

“We’ve had some concerts along the way that are memorable, but one in particular that stands out to me is one we did several years ago in Dallas,” remembers Craig. “We had a full orchestra and got to sing with an area choir comprised of several local churches. It was just one of those nights that takes your breath away.”

The group also enjoys going to other churches to be a part of their Christmas celebrations. “We love to go to different places and see the joy of the Christmas season,” said Craig. It is hard to listen to Christmas music and not feel more hopeful and joyful.”

This weekend, they will be bringing that very hope and joy to the Billy Graham Training Center at the Cove. “We’ll be singing a mixture of old and new songs,” said Craig. “Our audience at the Cove will hear some signature songs of ours, and certainly some Christmastime favorites. We’ll work in some things that are familiar, because we want people to be able to sing along.”

It’s also personally significant to him that they will be performing at the very place that Billy and Ruth Graham provided so that people could come and get refreshed.

“Like most people, I think of a life of integrity when I think of Billy Graham. I’ve read several of his books, but the one that stands out to me is The Leadership Secrets of Billy Graham,” said Craig. “It talks about how he led his ministry team. It inspired me to make sure that I have the same level of integrity. I want to finish strong, like Billy Graham is doing.”
