Q: How old was Billy Graham when he first drove a car?
A: Around eight years old.
Billy Graham was raised on a dairy farm in Charlotte, North Carolina, in the 1920s. At that time, Charlotte was mostly farmland, and it was common for children to start driving at a young age.
In his autobiography Just As I Am, Mr. Graham wrote, “Driving cars was every boy’s obsession. I started as early as eight, when Reese Brown [a farmhand and friend of the family] coached me in driving our GMC truck. By ten or twelve, I had graduated to our little Model T Ford.
“We did not bother with a learner’s permit (or even a driver’s license) back then in our part of the world.”
