A friend of mine admits that the Bible forbids a married person from having sex outside of marriage (i.e. adultery), but he claims it doesn't say anything about unmarried people having sex. Is he right?

No, he is not. The Bible clearly teaches that all sexual relations outside marriage are wrong in God’s eyes. The Bible bluntly says, “Flee from sexual immorality” (1 Corinthians 6:18). This includes any kind of sexual activity apart from marriage.

Remember that God gave us the gift of sex in the first place–and He intended for it to be a source of joy and happiness for us. But He also intended for it to be restricted to marriage. Why? One reason is because it was to be a sign of the unity between a husband and wife. It was, in other words, meant to be an expression of their mutual commitment and love. But sex outside marriage easily becomes selfish, and even boring.

God knows what is best for us, including this important area of our lives. Why ignore His way, when it is best for us in the long run? The Bible warns, “There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death” (Proverbs 14:12) The Bible also promises, “Blessed are they whose ways are blameless” (Psalm 119:1).

Pray for your friend; I can’t help but wonder if he is only looking for an excuse to live a life of self-indulgence and immorality. But there is forgiveness and new life for all who turn to Christ in repentance and faith. Yes, we live in a sex-saturated society–but with God’s help we can follow a far better path.

    1. Phil says:

There are lots of examples of people behaving against God’s will in the bible.
Just because “there are people in the bible that did XYZ”, does not mean that XYZ is a good thing to do!
There are History parts of the Bible and there are Command parts of the bible.
If you want to know what God thinks is good and bad behaviour, then pay attention to the parts of the bible where it actually reports what God said about it!

  3. Laurent says:

    Good morning,
I have a boyfriend. We going to have 2 yrs together. In 2 yrs I been depressed and confused, don’t know what to do. I love to study bible. I try my best to not sin but my boyfriend on the other hand hates when I say what God don’t like me to do. Since I’ve been with him, I commit sin and I feel like the same connection I used to have with the nature I don’t have it no more. What should I do?

    1. James says:

Leave him and walk with the Lord. We are not to be yoked to unbelievers. If Jesus is truly who you love and who you seek, then deny yourself and pick up your cross daily! May God bless sister and may he bring you fully into the light of all his truths! Seek his guidance ,not any man but Jesus alone!

  5. Abbah Sunday says:

Since I entered into the life of boyfriend and girlfriend, I did not find joy in it at all, pains everyday. I have been trying to do away with the relationship but I could not because I don’t wants to hurts the lady, so what do I do?

    1. Carol says:

Make time and talk with your lady, discuss with her about bible. I think she will be transformed

    2. ROYT says:

Who is more important? Your boyfriend or God. If God who made you says that fornication is wrong, why are you listening to your boyfriend and disobeying God? You must end up being unhappy. Flee fornication. Every sin that a man does is without the body but fornicators sin against their own body. If you are a christian, that type of life is a no -no and God will judge you severly because your body is his temple. YOu may fight against your boyfriend but you cannot fight God and win! Obey him will bring you deep down pleasure that does not leave you with remorse!

  6. Eliud gandulla says:

What about if you live with a woman all your life,… and be faithful to her. The commitment is before God. Not before man.

    1. me says:

Once you are truly committed to God, he will speak to your heart and you will do what’s right which is get married.

I re dedicated my life to God and I am studying this as it is the hardest thing to give up I have a boyfriend and just moved out.. and I am trying to live right for God… I know it talks about fornication but does it speak about other things .. or you just refrain from everything if it makes you think lustfully is it a sin. is there scripture to back that up?

  9. Abdulkadir joseph says:

I thank GOD for His mercy endurance forever, that today i will live the life of Christ Jesus our Lord

  10. Fay says:

Thank you for that truth it is in the word.of truth. Sometimes individuals be looking for an excuse to do their own thing, instead of living by the word!
