Can God help me overcome my fears? I know I shouldn't be this way, but I'm always worrying about what might happen to me or my children, and things like that. Sometimes it's all I can think about. I even have nightmares about bad things that might happen to us.

Yes, God wants to help you overcome these fears. He loves you, and He doesn’t want you to be haunted by constant fear and anxiety. The Bible says, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind” (2 Timothy 1:7, NKJV).

The key is to learn to trust God. I know this sounds simple—but think about it for a moment. If you truly believed God loved you and was in control of your future, would there be any room left for fear? Instead, you’d commit every situation to Him in prayer, and you’d know nothing could happen to you that was outside His control. You’d learn to say with the psalmist, “Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear” (Psalm 27:3).

This doesn’t mean you’ll never face problems or dangers; we live in a world that has been touched by evil. But it does mean you can know God is with you every step of the way, and even in times of trouble He won’t abandon you. Jesus warned, “In this world you will have trouble.” But then He added, “But take heart! I have overcome the world” (John 16:33).

Begin by asking Christ to come into your life—and He will. Then ask Him to help you trust Him in everything. Your fears may not vanish overnight, but as you commit them to Christ “the peace of God … will guard your hearts and your minds” (Philippians 4:7).

  1. Beth Cardwell says:

Thank you. I am so afraid and so diminished compared to my former self.

  2. Amanda says:

Please pray for me. I need it very badly. I’m struggling with fear of speaking to people about Jesus. I know it’s a shameful thing for me to be afraid of that but I have NEVER been good with conflict or confrontation. I’m not sure how I’ll be able to handle it if someone starts yelling at me or tries to put their hands on me. I’ve been trying so hard to get past it. I mean I’ve really been trying hard and praying in tears almost every day but have no answer. Maybe God hates me because I’m a coward, I think it does say that in the Bible that he hates cowards. Sometimes I wonder why He made me this way. It would be so much easier if I was an outgoing person that knew how to talk to people. Why, why, WHY won’t He help me?

    1. Topaz says:

Hi Amanda, I am going through the same exact thing as you…I know the exact feeling you are talking about.

  3. Florencia says:

I have just read your post and I liked so much. I am studying at college and sometimes I am afraid of failing. Today I woke up a bit anxious and nervous, and scared about the subjects and I prayed. I commited my fears to God, and I did everithing I could do to get better. He can do the imposible things, but I have to do the posibles:)

  4. Lessie Hubbard says:

I have had so many things happen to me, I use to be carefree and outgoing now I have become afraid, lonely and sad and worried all the time. I pray for God to help me. I have become afraid to be around people because I feel they will judge me and not like me. I lost my job, my home and I live with my husband’s mom, who we don’t have a good relationship. I suffer from high blood pressure, arthritis on my spine and my knees and 2 slipped disc in my back and a bad hip with swelling, my husband is our only income, I don’t know how to overcome this feeling of failure. I need comfort in believing God can help me become fearless. Please pray for me.

  5. Anna says:

  6. John says:

Fear, anxiety, depression please pray that God takes my burdens and fills me with strength and Joy! Thank you
