Q:

I admit I've never had anything to do with God, but now I'm facing major surgery and I'm really scared. I know I'm not ready to die. Is it too late for me to turn to God?

A:

No, it’s never too late to turn to God—and I strongly urge you to do so, because you need to put your life into His hands. Even if you didn’t face an uncertain future, you’d still need God, because apart from Him you have no real hope—either now, or for eternity.

But will God welcome you? Yes, He will, because He loves you, and He wants you to come to know Him in a deeply personal way. If He didn’t care about you … or if He was angry with you because you’ve ignored Him … then you’d have no reason to expect Him to welcome you. You’d always be like those of whom the Bible speaks: “without hope and without God in the world” (Ephesians 2:12).

But God does care about you! He cares about you so much that He came down from Heaven in the person of His Son, Jesus Christ, to give His life for you. We deserve to die for our sins—but on the cross, Jesus Christ took upon Himself the guilt and the judgment that we deserve. God loves us that much! The Bible says, “This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins” (1 John 4:10).

By a simple prayer of faith turn to God today, confessing your sins to Him and then putting your faith and trust in Christ. When you do, He’ll not only forgive you, but He’ll be with you every step of the way in the future.
