When you pose the question, “What do you think about the state of America’s morals and values?” you’re likely to get a myriad of answers.
Recently a video team from the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA) spoke with people on the streets of uptown Charlotte, North Carolina, where BGEA is headquartered.
Questions included: “Where does morality come from?” “Where do you stand on same-sex marriage, abortion and voting?” “What does the future of America look like?”

These questions generated strong opinions. Some people said they believe America’s morals and values will spiral downward in the future.
“We’ve moved away from being morally conscious,” one woman said.
Agreeing, one man explained why he believes this is happening: “It seems evident that God is less acceptable. That’s the biggest change I’ve noticed. It seems like now America is trying to eliminate God, versus originally when the country was founded, it was on God and Biblical principles.”
Taking another view, a woman commented, “I don’t find American values are changing drastically.” She said her own values come from being raised in a Muslim family in Turkey, noting, “We were raised very strict.”
On the issue of same-sex marriage, one woman said people should have the choice to live the way they want. “It’s not my job to judge them,” she said. “I’m for whatever makes you happy as long as you’re not hurting anybody.”
Offering a different stance, a young man said, “In the Bible, Jesus commands us to stand up for what He created—marriage between a man and a woman since the beginning.”
In all these issues, the Bible tells us that we can have hope for the future. We have Someone we can place our trust in, and His name is Jesus. No matter where you are in this nation or around the world, He can bring restoration.
