When we get to heaven, will we know what's happening on earth? If so, how can we be happy? There's so much misery in the world that I'd think it would just make us sad.

The Bible doesn’t answer all our questions about heaven—and we don’t know exactly how much knowledge those in heaven have about what happens here. The Bible does say that “we are surrounded by … a great cloud of witnesses” (i.e., those who have already entered heaven) but it isn’t clear if this means they are able to observe our lives (Hebrews 12:1).

But what we do know about heaven is that we will be with God—and because of that, heaven is a place of supreme joy. The Bible says, “You will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand” (Psalm 16:11). And even if we do see something of what is happening on earth, we’ll see the whole picture then, and we’ll realize how it all fits in with God’s eternal plan. We’ll realize too that evil and death will be defeated, and Christ will be victorious. That will give us joy!

Heaven is the heritage of every believer—because Christ conquered death and Hell and Satan by His resurrection from the dead. Have you put your faith and trust in Him for your salvation? Make sure of your eternal destiny by turning to Christ in repentance and faith, and committing your life to Him.

Then ask God to use you to encourage others who are overwhelmed by life’s burdens. Yes, our world is full of misery—but God wants to use you to point others to Christ, who alone can give us hope and new life.

Be sure of your eternal destiny today.

  1. Jen says:

Jesus gave parable about rich man and Lazarus after death. Rich man could either see or know what his brothers were doing on earth. So I wonder if this indicates we will know what is happening on earth

  2. Lori Wills says:

How can we be so happy in Heaven if our family and friends who were not Christians and will not be going to Heaven? The big picture would show them not coming to Heaven.

  3. Connee Miller says:

I once dreamed that I had visited my aunt and uncle in heaven. While there, I didn’t have any recollection of earth or things or people there until I was told I had to go back. Only then did I start to remember my family who were still on earth. I truly believe that I was in heaven because of the absence of worry or anxiety. I have never before or since felt complete calm as that.

  4. Davis, Pam says:

Now that I’ve been a born-again Christian for 42 years, now, I’m no longer worried about how insistently I’ll enter those great gates and know, without a shadow of a doubt, that I will also instantly see and able to reach out and not only recognize the others gone before me, but will be able to, in our newly-transformed, Christlike bodies, reach out and hug each and every one of them, and joyously sing and dance before the great throne of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, from whom my ransom was already paid for by the precious blood of the Lamb, the Lion of Judah, over 2,000 years ago, to sit at the table of the Lamb’s dinner place, along with all of us past, present and future saints of our Lord Jesus Christ forever without end. Selah!
