No, God isn’t angry at you for not reading the Bible. He knows your limitations, and He will never ask you to do something He knows you can’t do.

But God is concerned about your spiritual growth, and if you aren’t finding other ways to discover the Bible’s truth and apply it to your life, then God is saddened because you aren’t becoming as spiritually strong as you could be. The Bible is God’s Word, and one reason He gave it to us is so we can grow in our relationship to Him. Job said, “I have not departed from the commands of his lips; I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my daily bread” (Job 23:12). May this be true of you.

Make sure first of your own commitment to Christ. If you are unsure of your relationship to Him or if you have never asked Him to come into your life, I urge you to do so today. God loves you and wants you to come to know Him in a personal way by committing your life to Jesus Christ.

Then ask God to help you learn more about the Bible. Listen carefully when your pastor preaches from the Bible. Get involved in a class or small group that studies the Bible. A book of daily devotions based on brief passages from the Bible may also help you. Remember the psalmist’s words: “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path” (Psalm 119:105).
