Q:
How can we become more like Christ if we don’t know what He’s really like, or if He existed at all? How can we be “hidden” in Christ, as the Bible instructs, when He is hidden from us even now? So why strive to be like Him?
A:

Most speculations about God miss one very important truth: God wants us to know what He is like. We don’t need to guess, because God has revealed Himself to us. Jesus Christ is God in human flesh, and the story of His life, death, and resurrection is the only Good News the world will ever hear.
If we decided we didn’t want anyone to know we existed, we would have to avoid any contact with other people. We would have to be sure we didn’t leave any evidence around that we existed. We wouldn’t even put out our trash or turn on a light. Just the smallest trace would indicate we existed—and the more clues we left behind, the more convinced people would be that we were real.
This is somewhat the way it is with God. We know He exists because He has left evidence behind for us to discover. The crucial difference: God isn’t trying to hide from us. Quite the opposite; God wants us to know He exists. He wants us to know what He is like.
God can take anything that happens to us—even bad things—and use it to shape us and make us into a better, more Christlike person—if we will let Him! It is God’s desire that we be conformed to the image of His Son.
“He who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him” (Hebrews 11:6).
