Q:

I know you must get a lot of letters from people telling you about their problems and asking for advice, and I'm curious to know what the number one problem is that they write you about.

A:

Yes, many letters from people seeking advice do come into our new headquarters (1 Billy Graham Parkway, Charlotte, North Carolina 28201)—and I’m very thankful for every one of them.

Not all problems can be solved in a letter or column, however, which is why we often urge people to seek out a church or pastor (or other professional) who can give them further help. But the older I get, the more I realize how profound the Bible’s teachings about life really are, and how different our lives would be if we only followed them. The psalmist wrote, “How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word” (Psalm 119:9).

People write about all kinds of issues, of course, from questions about the Bible to problems with sickness or doubt. But by far the most common problem is relationships—a marriage gone sour, loneliness, divorce, conflicts in a family or at work, and so forth. We’re all imperfect, which causes conflict—and the reason we’re imperfect is because of sin. The Bible says, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23).

But that isn’t the end of the story! God loves us, and when we open our hearts to Christ He can change us and begin to heal our broken relationships. I have seen this happen to countless people over the years—and it can happen to you, as you turn to Christ and invite Him to come into your life.
