Q:

I know this isn't a spiritual question, but my biggest problem is that I'm just a very disorganized person. What have you found useful to help you get organized? I don't think you could have accomplished all the things you have unless you were very organized.

A:

A disorganized person is a defeated person, and no matter who we are, if we aren’t organized we’ll never accomplish as much as we could. This is why your question actually is a spiritual one, because if we’re always disorganized, we’ll never accomplish everything God wants us to do.

In my experience, being organized isn’t something that just happens; for most of us it takes determination and discipline. The Bible says, “He who ignores discipline despises himself, but whoever heeds correction gains understanding” (Proverbs 15:32). God doesn’t want you to be ineffective and disorganized, unable to accomplish all you should. Instead, He wants to help you become more organized and disciplined. The Bible says, “The corrections of discipline are the way to life” (Proverbs 6:23).

This is why the first step I urge you to take is to commit this problem—and your whole life—to Jesus Christ. God loves you, and when we come by faith to Him He gives us a whole new set of priorities. If you have never done so, open your heart and life to Christ today.

Then ask God to help you find practical ways to be better organized. For example, make a list of what you need to do each day, and when you begin a task, see it through to the end and don’t let yourself be distracted by something else.
