I don’t know why your former church overlooked this important doctrine—although I’m sorry they did. Perhaps your pastor had never had an opportunity to study what the Bible says about it; perhaps he simply felt he needed to concentrate on the present instead of the future.

But whatever the reason, Christ’s second coming is clearly taught in the Bible, and virtually every church’s statement of belief refers to it. This isn’t by accident; Jesus spoke often about His return and made it an important part of His message. When He was taken up into heaven after His resurrection, the angels promised His disciples that “This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven” (Acts 1:11).

Why is this truth important? For one thing, it gives us hope for the future. Our world is filled with war and injustice and suffering—but someday all that will be reversed. When Christ establishes His Kingdom, sin will be banished and righteousness and peace will prevail.

But the second coming is important for another reason: It reminds us that someday this life will come to an end. Are you ready for that day? You can be, by committing your life to Jesus Christ. Don’t let another day go by without Him.
