We know our souls won’t be trapped in our bodies when we die for one very good reason: God has promised to take us to Himself. The Bible says, “We know that if the earthly tent we live in (i.e. our body) is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven” (2 Corinthians 5:1).

You see, God’s eternal plan is to take us to Himself. This world is not our final home; heaven is, if we belong to Christ. In this world, our lives are filled with insecurity and sorrow and pain—all because of sin. But Jesus Christ came to conquer sin and death, and because of Him we have hope.

Just as surely as Christ rose from the dead, so we can surely know that someday we will go to be with Him through all eternity. God’s plan will come to pass, for He loves us, and nothing can overcome Him. But more than that, someday we will be given new bodies—bodies that will never age or grow weary. Because of Christ we have “an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade—kept in heaven for you” (1 Peter 1:4).

I know you can barely imagine all this—but it’s true! Someday, “the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed” (1 Corinthians 15:52). Are you ready for that day? You can be, by turning to Christ and asking Him to come into your life today. He alone “is able to save completely those who come to God through him” (Hebrews 7:25).
