How can anyone say for sure that his or her name is written down in God's book, the one that lists everyone who will be saved? That sounds conceited to me. We won't know if our names are in that book until we actually die and appear before God, will we?

If our salvation depended on how good we were, then you would be right: It would be prideful and conceited for someone to say they are among “those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life” (Revelation 21:27). They would be saying they were better than other people–so good, in fact, that God would have to let them into heaven.

But listen: You and I will never be good enough to get into heaven on our own! The reason is because God is pure and holy, and even one sin–just one–would be enough to keep you out of heaven. God does not take our good deeds and bad deeds, and weigh them against each other. Sin is an offense to Him; as the Bible says, “whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it” (James 2:10).

This is why we need Christ, for He came into the world to take away our sins. We cannot remove our sins or our guilt–but Christ can, because He was the sinless Son of God. When we come by faith to Him, all our sins are transferred to Him, and we are forgiven. Yes, we can know our names are written in God’s book–because of Christ. Don’t trust in your own goodness, but trust Christ and what He has done for you. By faith commit your life to Him today.

  1. Richard Lu says:

Yes we know that Jesus Christ died for our sins, but as human being living in this world, we may repeat & keep on sinning all the time until dead comes. Will our name still be written in the book of life?

  2. Martina Milan says:

I am struggling that i think/feel that i am not repenting – thus; i am not saved. I want to repent but don’t actually act on it. Am feeling awful and guilty guilty guilty — becuz i don’t repent. Since i’ve given up trying to change my lazy habits and self-centered ways

    1. BGEA says:

      Hi Martina,
Please consider visiting to talk with a member of our team. They’d love to pray with you about this!

  3. Harry says:

It is an amazing thing that was done for us. When we confess our sins we are forgiven and for that brief moment in time we are as pure as the driven snow. It is a wonderful thing to be sin free. To be in Heaven in a sin free environment will be, well, Heaven. No agendas, no deceit, everything focused on the Lord and praising Him. Trust and put your faith in Christ and He will deliver you from sin.

  4. Rosario Lewis says:

Good. Yes we can never be good enough to be saved and have our names written in book of life . When we give our life to Jesus our sins are transferred to him becsuse he has all ready paid the price for it and we become saints of God and our names are in book of life
