No, nothing is wrong with you; it’s entirely possible for us to be so shocked by something that we become emotionally numb. And when that happens, we often find we can’t put our feelings into words – either to others or to God.
But God doesn’t abandon us when those hard times come – not at all. In fact, He may be nearer to us in those moments than He has ever been before – even if we aren’t aware of it. Even if we can’t put our heartaches into words, Christ is still praying for us, and the Holy Spirit is still helping us. In such times, the Bible says, “The Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express” (Romans 8:26). Take comfort in this truth.
At the same time, turn your burdens over to the Lord – even if you find it hard to put them into words. He knows what you are going through, and He loves you with a love that will never fail. If His Son was willing to give His life for you, won’t He also be willing to hear your prayers and help you? Of course He will.
The Bible says, “Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous fall” (Psalm 55:22). These aren’t easy times for you – but Christ is with you, and my prayer is that you will sense His presence every day.
