Yes, it is wrong in God’s eyes to be driven by greed, because a greedy person cares only for himself and has no regard for others. Jesus condemned the selfish people of His day because they were “full of greed and self-indulgence” (Matthew 23:25).

But it doesn’t need to be this way — and in fact, over the years I’ve known countless successful men and women in business who were exactly the opposite. Although they were successful, they knew God had given them their abilities, and He also had given them the opportunity to use their abilities for the good of others. In addition, they treated their employees well and were honest and generous toward others.

I pray you won’t compromise your moral integrity in order to get ahead in your business or career. It may be tempting, and at times it may seem like the smart thing to do — but in the long run, it never is. Not only will you hurt your reputation, but you’ll hurt those you love and be a bad example to your children. The Bible warns, “A greedy man brings trouble to his family” (Proverbs 15:27).

Instead, put Christ first in your life, including in your career. Others may scoff or say you’re being foolish, but you aren’t, for God has promised to bless those who trust Him and follow His ways. The psalmist said, “I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread” (Psalm 37:25).
