Q:
How in the world could I ever serve Christ? I live alone and am disabled. My church is by way of television and my closest neighbor is two miles away. I barely have enough money to survive. I do have a heart for other people and desire to do something, but what hope could I ever have of reaching out to others?

We should never forget: Jesus Christ died to save people from even the most remote corner of the world—people you and I will never know during our lifetimes, but people we will be with in Heaven forever. “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son” (John 3:16, NIV). God’s plan is universal! No tribe, no language group, no nation is beyond the scope of His love.
The same should be true of us. Jesus’ words to His disciples have never been rescinded: “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses … to the ends of the earth” (Acts 1:8, NIV).
Not everyone is called of God to be a missionary or evangelist. But when we know Christ, we are partners in His “grand design.” God does enable each of us to serve Him. And for those who are homebound, which can be for many reasons, intercessory prayer is one of the great ministries that we can all participate in. Prayers for others have an impact for the Gospel far beyond our home base.
Prayers have no boundaries. They can leap miles and continents and be translated instantly into any language. Whether prayer changes our situation or not, one thing is certain: Prayer will change us! “We will give ourselves continually to prayer and to the ministry of the word” (Acts 6:4, NKJV).
