Does God reveal things through dreams and visions?

The Bible indicates that God revealed His will to selected people through dreams or visions in Scriptures such as Genesis 37:5-10; 1 Kings 3:5-15; Daniel, chapters 2 and 7; Matthew 1:20; 2:13,19; and Acts 10:9-16; 16:9.

God may communicate through dreams or visions even today, but we need to carefully check any such guidance we receive with Scripture and godly counsel to be sure it is from the Lord. Anything which contradicts Scripture is not from God. Our minds and even Satan are capable of producing great deception in such subjective areas.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 shows that God has revealed His will to us primarily through His Word. It says, “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

  1. Esther says:

I have gone through the above scriptures one by one and I must say that I have been blessed especially the story of Daniel.

  2. Shawn Dawson says:

One of my daughters woke us up this morning telling us that she had a dream that she was with God. She gave Him a hug, then asked Him “why can’t everyone go to Heaven?” He replied “because there are bad people in the world, but don’t worry about it. You keep doing what you’re doing and pray”. God is AWESOME! When she woke up, she drew a picture of God.

  3. Graham says:

I recently received an offer to intern at a Church a few states away. I’m 23 and though I’ve lived on my own for a while now, I’ve never lived that far away from family. The internship is only for a month and it would require me to find another job after I return. I was very frightened but I felt in my spirit that God wants me to go and learn even if I’m not called to be a pastor. Last night, I dreamed of a heavy dark presence standing over me and after I muttered “my soul belongs to the Lord, I praise Him” this presence started hitting me but could never actually touch me. Safe to say, I’m accepting the offer.

  4. Donna says:

I dreamed my older sister died in my dream. I woke up crying uncontrollably. I told my dream to her that morning. Another sister in between the older one and myself was also in my dream. My older sister had been experiencing a lot of pain in her back and wouldn’t go to the doctor. Within 2 weeks she died because of the pain. A Ct scan revealed she had lung cancer and it had metastasized into her spine. Within 2 months she was dead. My second sister and I took care of her until she drew her final breath. I believe my dream was from God to show me to she was going to die to make sure she used her time left to really know Him. And she did. Praise God. Many things in my dream came to pass just as it happened.

  5. Lynn says:

Last night I dreamt of snowflakes some were rectangular half a foot long I grabbed two, they had the devils face in them and i heard a voice telling me to repent

  6. Tj says:

When I was just 18, I went to bed like any other night. I thought I was dreaming but felt as though I was floating in the clouds looking down on my Grandparents’ farm house. I could see my grandfather lying there just inside the door way. He was dead. When I awoke the next morning, I was quite shaken by this dream. I told my mom about it. She asked if I wanted to call Grandpa just to let me know he was okay. I told her there was no need to do so. Around 6pm that evening, we got a call that my grandpa had had a massive heart attack and died…laying just inside the door of their farm house. I’m a simple person and Christian who relies on God’s grace and mercy. I still, to this day, do not understand why God allowed me to dream it.

  7. Colin Wilson says:

    Thank you.

  8. Jacqueline Browning says:

I just need to know what the bible say about visions and dreams

  9. Pedro says:

I had a dream that I was eating by myself at a big square table, I was sad, depressed, I felt so much rejection, hurt. Before I had my dream I knew God was calling me out to serve him, but I kept asking The Lord why do u want to use me after all I’ve done I’ve failed u Lord. And he spoke to me in my dream with a gentle voice you’re worth it! He kept repeating it to me 7 times and I cried like a baby. But the tears were not of sorrow but of joy. He healed every part of my broken heart and he reminded me that he LOVES ME and his love will never change. Nor will he leave me nor forsake me. GLORY TO GOD blessed is his name Jesus Christ, For he is the same today, tomorrow, and forever Amen!
