Each year, the Billy Graham Library in Charlotte, North Carolina, hosts Christmas at the Library to celebrate the birth of Christ. Festivities include a live nativity. This is part 2 of a four-part series featuring the unique personalities of the nativity animals.
The animals come from Sam’s Path Petting Zoo in northeast Georgia, a mobile zoo run by Jeff and Jodi Gray.
OK, so there weren’t any kangaroos at Christ’s birth, but this year is an exception. Because Roc is just a baby, he’s tagging along with the other animals at this year’s live nativity, instead of staying home.
Roc gets his name from Ayers Rock, an incredible sandstone monolith in the heart of Australia’s Red Centre desert. The nativity newcomer stands two feet tall and currently weighs in at 30 pounds, but when he’s full grown, this mighty marsupial will be a muscular 7 feet, 280 pounds. At only six months old, he’s more charm than crossfit. Visitors will have their best chance of seeing the native Tennessean clad in his size-4 diaper if the weather is clear and not too cold (think warmer than 45 degrees). Don’t worry if you notice his diaper is backward. It has to be that way or he’ll take it off.
Fun fact? When Roc is full grown, he will be able to hop 35 miles per hour.
Christmas at the Library is open through Dec. 23, Monday through Thursday, 9:30 a.m. – 9 p.m., and Friday and Saturday, 9:30 a.m. – 10 p.m.
