A memorial set up outside of Apalachee High School in Winder, Ga., has become a gathering place for people to pray and share their grief over the recent deadly shooting. Here, a chaplain prays with those coping with the tragedy.

Two students and two teachers lost their lives Wednesday when a 14-year-old student opened fire at Apalachee High School in Winder, about an hour east of Atlanta. Those killed range in age from 14 to 53.

“Join me in praying especially for those who lost loved ones and for those injured in this senseless act of evil,” Franklin Graham said on social media. “May God’s hand of comfort be on them.

“Our Billy Graham Rapid Response Team will be there in Georgia to offer prayer and spiritual support to those impacted by this tragedy in the difficult days ahead.”

According to news reports, Wednesday’s mass shooting is the deadliest school shooting this year.

At the invitation of local authorities, BG-RRT sent crisis-trained chaplains to Winder to help support those grieving.

“As a father, my heart breaks for the students, teachers, and families,” said Josh Holland, international director of BG-RRT. “In this dark hour, our chaplains are coming alongside the hurting and broken to offer emotional and spiritual care—the hope and comfort of Jesus Christ.”

Chaplains attended a prayer vigil for the victims Wednesday night and will continue ministering to this devastated community in the coming days.
