Have you ever considered that many of our culture’s core values—like self-care, self-indulgence, and how we deserve certain rights—are really just lies from the enemy?
On her latest Fearless podcast episode, Cissie Graham Lynch introduced her listeners to a new mini-series called, “The Lies of I’s.”
“The first ‘Lie of I’ is ‘I deserve,’” Cissie said.
“We live in a culture that is preoccupied with what we consider our rights, what we think we are owed. … We live in a self-serving society where we are the center of our universe.”
How do we expose these lies in our own lives, and as we raise our children? Cissie encourages us to look to Jesus for the answer.
“I deserve to be judged by the full measure of my failures,” she said, noting how the Gospel helps us see what we really deserve.
“But Jesus took on what He didn’t deserve in order to save me and you from what we deserve.”
Because of the grace we freely receive through Christ’s sacrifice for us on the cross, we should now have a spirit of gratitude rather than entitlement, she added.
