As we come to Christmas, I can’t help but think of my mother. She loved Christmastime. She would decorate the house from one end to the other, hang stockings on the mantel, and always set up a huge tree. She roasted chestnuts, gave us hot chocolate around the fireplace, and read to us.
But she and my father never allowed us as a family to lose focus on what Christmas was really all about. It is the righteousness of God being revealed to mankind through His Son, “even the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe” (Romans 3:22, NKJV).
It can be very easy to get caught up in the busyness of this time of year. It is easy to lose our focus on Christ, who came to earth as a baby in a manger to save us from our sins. I encourage you to purposefully look for ways to keep Christ central in your celebrations this season.
Sharing the truth of the Gospel and the hope found in Jesus Christ is the best gift you could give anyone at Christmas, or anytime. The shepherds were out in fields tending their sheep when the angels appeared to them and announced to the world that a Savior had been born (see Luke 2:11). Today let’s continue to proclaim that message far and wide. That should be our goal and purpose as individuals, and it is our sole purpose at BGEA.
