Our society faces many problems today, but surely one of the most serious is our failure to give our young people a moral compass — an inner sense of right and wrong to guide them through life. Instead, shallow statements like “Do your own thing” and “If it feels good, do it” have molded their thinking and influenced their behavior.

But this kind of self-centered, pleasure-seeking philosophy leads inevitably to social and moral chaos. I often think of those who were living during a similar time in the Old Testament: “In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes” (Judges 21:25, KJV). When we lose sight of what God has told us about right and wrong, we end up casting aside all moral standards.

Why has this happened? No doubt there are many reasons — but the root of the problem is that we’ve failed to teach our young people to love God and serve Him. Instead, we’ve exalted secular values and immoral lifestyles — and now we are paying the price. The Bible warns, “There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death” (Proverbs 14:12).

Pray for your niece, and encourage her to put Christ first in her life — no matter what others do. And pray for our nation, that God will intervene and send spiritual revival to our land before it’s too late.
