No, death does not end everything—not at all. While death marks the end of our present life on earth, the Bible makes it clear that our souls or spirits continue to live. You and I were not made just for this life; we were made for eternity!
How do we know this is true? One reason is because God has put a yearning for eternity into our hearts. Down inside we all sense that there must be something more, and that someday all the heartaches and evils of this life will be made right. Animals don’t yearn for eternity—but we do. God, the Bible says, not only created us, but “He has also set eternity in the human heart” (Ecclesiastes 3:11).
But we especially know that this life is not all there is, because of Jesus Christ. Sin separates us from God—both now and in eternity. But by His death on the cross and His resurrection from the dead Jesus made it possible for us to be forgiven of our sins and go to be with Him forever. The Bible says, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23).
Don’t gamble with your soul; don’t risk spending eternity in that state of absolute despair the Bible calls Hell. Instead, turn to Jesus Christ and by faith put your trust in Him alone for your salvation. He alone gives us hope—both for life now, and for eternity. Why not commit your life to Him today?
