No, it isn’t wrong to pray that Christ will return soon and bring an end to all the evil in the world. The very last prayer in the Bible is a prayer for Jesus’ return: “Amen. Come, Lord Jesus” (Revelation 22:20).
After all, we sometimes forget that this world is only temporary (and so is its evil). We get all wrapped up in the present, and we think things will never change. We may even wonder sometimes if God has even forgotten us. Like some in Peter’s day, we may be tempted to say, “Where is this ‘coming’ he promised? … Everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation” (2 Peter 3:4).
But someday Christ will come again! It may be soon, or it may be far off—but His coming is certain, for He has promised it. And when He does return, He will straighten out our crooked world with all of its sin and evil. The Bible says, “But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness” (2 Peter 3:13).
Yes, pray for Christ to come—but at the same time, don’t neglect the work God has given you to do. For example, pray for your grandchildren and encourage them to give their lives to Christ. Never forget: No matter what the future holds, nothing “in all creation will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:39).
