The most important thing I can say to you is that God knows all about your situation, and He loves you and will always be with you—even when your way seems dark. God’s promise is true: “The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you. … Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged” (Deuteronomy 31:8).
How do I know this is true? I know it because of what we will be celebrating in just a few days: the coming of Jesus Christ into the world. On that first Christmas over 2,000 years ago, God did something that we can barely grasp: He became a man. Think of it: The God who created the universe stooped down from Heaven and became a human being!
That man was Jesus Christ—and He came into the world for one reason: to give us hope for the future. Yes, you are facing death—but so is everyone else on earth, sooner or later. But by his death and resurrection Jesus Christ conquered death and Hell and Satan, and when we put our faith and trust in Him, we have hope—hope for today, and hope for life after death in Heaven. Ask Christ to come into your life today—and He will.
Then pray for your grandchildren (and all your family), and assure them of your love and concern. Pray too that your life always will remind them of Christ’s reality and love. It’s the greatest heritage you can give them.
