If angels are real, then why can't we see them? I know you often see pictures or figures of them with wings and halos and everything, but how do we know what they look like, or even if they exist?

Angels are spiritual beings — that is, they don’t have physical bodies that we can see or touch. The Bible calls them “ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation” (Hebrews 1:14).

At times, however, they can assume physical form — and when that happens, they can be seen by us. The Bible indicates this happens only rarely — but it does happen. At times, their appearance is glorious and radiant, and they are immediately recognized as angelic beings. At the end of the present age, for example, the Bible says that the angelic hosts of heaven will accompany Christ as He comes again in glory (see Matthew 25:31). At other times, however, they are unrecognized because they appear as ordinary humans. The Bible says that “some people have entertained (or welcomed) angels without knowing it” (Hebrews 13:2).

We should take great comfort in the fact that we are never alone if we know Christ. We are never alone because He lives within us by His Holy Spirit — but we also are never alone because His angels are constantly with us. The Bible says, “He will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways” (Psalm 91:11).

At the same time, we are not to worship the angels or make them the center of our attention. Christ alone is our Savior, and He alone is worthy of our faith. Is He the center of your life?

  1. Jerry Edwards says:

Angels are real. I was in the hospital about 15 years ago. The doctor performing my surgery placed so much fear in my spirit about possibly not making it through the surgery. I lost hope and faith of coming out alive. While waiting to go to surgery another doctor entered my room. He introduced himself to my children, my wife, then to me. (He told us his name was Doctor John.) He shook our hands (touched us) and told me that everything was going to be alright and for me not to worry about anything. After the surgery I asked the performing surgeon about the other doctor. The surgeon looked at me with an confused stare and said (2x’s) there is no doctor John employed at this hospital. Angels are REAL…I am a witness.

  2. Alton Harrison says:

God and His angels are watching over us. What an eternal blessing for believers.

  3. Ms. Parker says:

Two of my sisters and I have seen three angels together when we were very young. The soft light surrounding them was like the glowing light of a candle. They were wearing long white robes. I knew they were angels when a large wing moved upward. I was very excited and ran to tell my parents. Please be sure to tell Billy Graham.
