Your aunt cares about you, and I’m thankful you’re taking her concerns seriously. People who are constantly offended or upset not only cut themselves off from others, but also spend their lives being miserable. God doesn’t want you to be like this!
I’m not a psychologist, of course, but over the years, I’ve noticed that people who are easily offended often lack confidence in themselves. Not only do they believe that every criticism someone makes about them is true (even if it isn’t), but they also suspect people are saying bad things about them when they actually aren’t. Their hypersensitivity is a sure recipe for unhappiness.
Instead of worrying about what others think of you, let me suggest that you ask yourself what God thinks of you. Have you ever thought about that? The truth is, you are very special to Him. He made you; He loves you; He wants what is best for you; He even wants you to spend eternity with Him in Heaven.
How do I know this? I know it because God sent His only Son into the world to die for you. If you had been the only person in the world who needed to be saved, Jesus Christ still would have given His life for you. God loves you that much! Ask Christ to come into your life today. Then ask Him to help you see yourself — and others — the way He does. The Bible says, “A man’s wisdom gives him patience; it is to his glory to overlook an offense” (Proverbs 19:11).
