One reason I believe in life after death is because down inside, we all sense that this life is incomplete, and there must be something more. We also yearn for all of life’s injustices and heartaches to be made right—something we know will never happen in this short life.
But the main reason I know there is life beyond the grave is because of the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. His death was witnessed by hundreds—or even thousands—and the tough, hardened Roman soldiers who nailed Him to the cross and then took His body down knew beyond doubt that He was dead.
And yet, on the third day after that terrible event, He appeared repeatedly to His disciples, and they were convinced beyond doubt He had come back from the dead. About 20 years later, the Apostle Paul wrote that “he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers at the same time, most of whom are still living” (1 Corinthians 15:6).
If Jesus Christ rose from the dead—and He did—it is the most important event in all history. It tells us that Satan and sin and death have been conquered, and we can know beyond doubt that there is life beyond the grave. More than that, we can know that we will go to be with Him in heaven. And this can be your hope if you will turn to Christ and trust Him for your salvation.
