Q:

How can you tell if you need God? My friends think I have everything anyone could ever want, but down inside I still feel an emptiness that nothing seems to satisfy. They'd think I was crazy if they knew I was writing you, but something's missing and I don't know what it is.

A:

In reality, we all need God, whether we realize it or not. In fact, the person who needs God the most is often the person who feels their need the least. As Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick” (Luke 5:31).

What’s missing in your life? I can answer in one word: God. You see, God made us and put within every one of us a desire to know Him. But when we leave Him out of our lives, an empty place is left in our hearts that nothing else can ever fill. We may ignore it or try to fill it with other things — and for a time, we may think we’ve succeeded. But this never lasts, and we’re left empty and dissatisfied.

But it doesn’t need to be this way! God loves us and wants to come into our lives and fill our empty hearts with Himself. Can you imagine anything greater or more fulfilling? And He has made this possible by sending Jesus Christ into the world to bridge the gap between us and God — a gap caused by our sin.

Don’t let your friends, your social position, or anything else keep you from Christ. By a simple prayer of faith ask Him to come into your life today — and He will. The Bible’s promise is true: “In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind” (John 1:4).
