Yes, God knows everything that’s taking place in our lives—including our motives and our deepest inner thoughts. The Bible is clear: “Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight” (Hebrews 4:13).
Does this alarm you? Perhaps it should—because it reminds us that we can’t hide from God or deceive Him into thinking we’re better than we really are. Even if we’re as decent and good as we can possibly be, we’re still guilty before God. The Bible says, “If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us” (1 John 1:8).
But the fact that God knows all about you also ought to bring you great hope—because even though He knows everything about you, He still loves you. Yes, you’d be embarrassed if a friend knew what you were really thinking—and they might not want anything more to do with you. But God isn’t like that! In spite of our sin, He still loves us. He loves us so much that He sent His only Son into the world to become the final sacrifice for our sins.
Turn to Jesus Christ and trust Him—and not your own goodness—for your salvation. Then ask Him to fill your mind and heart with His truth, and with His love for others. May the Psalmist’s prayer become yours: “Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting” (Psalm 139:23-24).
