God wants our faith in Him to be strong; it isn’t His will for anyone to have a faith that’s weak and easily shaken. The Bible commands us to have a strong faith “so that you may have great endurance and patience” (Colossians 1:11).
But a strong faith doesn’t happen by accident. Our faith grows stronger only as we nourish and exercise it; if we don’t, it will always be weak. Just as we need food and exercise to grow and become strong physically, so we need spiritual “food” and “exercise” in order to grow and become strong spiritually. And God has provided everything we need to make this happen.
What is this spiritual “food” and “exercise”? First, God has given us His Word, the Bible. It tells us about God and how He wants us to live. It also tells us about Christ, who by His death and resurrection won our salvation. Make the Bible part of your life every day — read it, study it, learn about it from others. The Bible says, “The unfolding of your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple” (Psalm 119:130).
Then God has given us the privilege of prayer. Instead of worrying about our problems (or worse yet, refusing to admit they exist), we can bring them to God in prayer. In addition, when we come to Christ God makes us part of His family, and our brothers and sisters in Christ can encourage and help us. Ask God to help you strengthen your faith — beginning today.
