At least six have died and tens of thousands ordered to evacuate as the Carr Wildfire rages in northern California. Chaplains with the Billy Graham Rapid Response Team (RRT) began arriving in Redding Sunday to be there for residents facing devastating loss.
Reports say over 100,000 acres have burned and more than 500 structures have been destroyed.
“We will have ten crisis-trained chaplains … to share God’s hope with those in shelters who have evacuated their homes as this tragic wildfire continues to escalate,” Josh Holland, assistant director for RRT, said.
Redding is about two-and-a-half hours north of Sacramento, California, and roughly the same distance from the Oregon border. More than 9,000 people in the area showed up to the Shasta District Fairgrounds when Franklin Graham visited the city for the 10th and final stop on the Decision America California Tour on June 5.
“Please pray for those in the path of this deadly wildfire that is tearing through communities in California,” Franklin urged on Facebook.
Officials attribute the swiftly growing wildfire to scorching temperatures and high winds, with only a small percent of the fire contained.
Chaplains also deployed to Greece last week in response to wildfires there that have killed nearly 100 people near Athens.
Please pray for the safety of all Californians in the path of the Carr Wildfire, along with those suffering historic devastation due to fires in Greece.
