Recently, someone pointed out to me that the world has twice as many people in it today as it had when I first started my ministry. God loves every one of them – and every one of them needs Christ.
This is one reason why foreign missions and missionaries are needed more today than ever before. Jesus’ command has never been canceled: “Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation” (Mark 16:15). Some missionaries are called to do evangelistic work or start churches; others are called to work with local churches and help them grow in their faith and witness. But the goal is the same: “That all men may know of your mighty acts and the glorious splendor of your kingdom” (Psalm 145:12).
Ask God to help you see the world the way He sees it, in all of its rebellion and spiritual need. Then ask God to help you realize in a new way just how powerful the Gospel can be, to transform lives and make the world a better place. Some places in the world may seem closed to the Gospel – but there also are more open doors than ever before.
Then ask God to help you see what part He wants you to have in reaching the world for Christ. You may not be called to be a missionary – but you can pray, and you can give. Ask Him also to help you reach out to those around you who don’t know Christ. God wants to use you in their lives – and He will, if you are willing.
