Only you can answer this, of course—but I’m thankful you’re asking it, because it’s the first step on the road to a genuine faith. And I sincerely hope you’ll continue on this road; the Bible promises that God “rewards those who earnestly seek him” (Hebrews 11:6).
People turn away from God for all sorts of reasons, I’ve discovered. Some reject God very deliberately, often because something has happened to them that makes them doubt God’s love (or even His existence). Sadly, instead of turning to Him for the strength and help they need, they find it easier to reject Him.
But most people simply drift away from God. They get preoccupied with the challenges of daily living, and little by little God gets pushed to the edges of their lives. Others give in to the temptation to live only for self, often falling into habits and lifestyles that could destroy them. Still others, Jesus said, “are choked by life’s worries, riches and pleasures” (Luke 8:14).
One reason I wanted to print your question is because I hope it will be a warning to others who may be tempted to leave God out of their lives. But the most important thing I can tell you is this: Although you can’t change the past, you can change the future! God loves you, and Christ wants to come into your life and give you hope for the future. By a simple prayer of faith commit your life to Jesus today. His promise is for you: “Whoever comes to me I will never drive away” (John 6:37).
