Homeschool Families Refreshed, Inspired at the Billy Graham Library

More than 1,000 people attended Homeschool Day at the Billy Graham Library. One mother said this event was, "the perfect opportunity," for her family to experience Christ-centered, hands-on learning.

Children far outnumbered adults on March 14 at The Billy Graham Library, as excited families came from across the region for Homeschool Day. The free event featured craft time, an opportunity to learn about serving God through a career in ministry, special tours, and warm churros from the dairy bar.

For Janet Rollins—who just started homeschooling her 10-year-old grandson, Michael, this year—the day was confirmation from God that she made the right decision.

Many counseled her not to teach him at home, but Rollins was thrilled when she found out about this supportive event. She jumped at the chance to connect with other moms as she navigates this new area of life.

Her main hope in attending was for her grandson to come away inspired to follow Jesus Christ more closely by seeing the legacy of faith Billy Graham left, she added.

“Coming here refreshes me,” she said, as tears filled her eyes. “I wanted to meet other Christians because sometimes you can feel so isolated and by yourself. I am just so grateful.”

A Special Place

William and Tammy Brown—who have been homeschooling for the past 19 years—came with their 12-year-old daughter, Karina.

“I remember this place being really cool when I came a long time ago,” said Karina, who was looking forward to checking out the arts and crafts.  “I’m very interested in art, and I want to be an actor or artist when I grow up,” she added.

The family has attended various events at The Library over the years.

Tammy shared some memories she holds dear to her heart: attending Graham’s final Crusade in Charlotte, and seeing one of her son’s come to faith in Jesus Christ after going through The Library’s Journey of Faith Tour.

“He gave his life to the Lord here six years ago when he was 13,” she said with a smile.

With three of their four kids now graduated from high school, the Browns are excited to continue homeschooling their youngest—and treasuring more sweet moments together at The Library.
