One Year of Ministry in Haiti

A 7.0 earthquake hit Haiti on January 12, 2010 at 4:53 p.m.
Buildings, homes and lives were destroyed.
Two million people live in Port-au-Prince alone.
The country's population is nearly10 million.
80 percent of Haitians lived under the poverty line befor the quake.
Rapid Response Team chaplains deployed within hours of the disaster.
Teams from Samaritan's Purse worked alongside the RRT, providing water, food and building shelters.

Franklin Graham visited Haiti on Feb. 5 & 6, 2010.
"This is one of the largest disaster responses in our history," said Graham.
Both Samaritan's Purse and the BGEA Rapid Response Team will stay in Haiti for the long term.
Chaplains also comforted people in the streets of Port-au-Prince.
The smell of death lingered for a long time.
The spirit of most people remained strong, said chaplains.
Tens of thousands lost their homes.

A weekend of fasting and prayer, Feb. 12-14, 2010.
Churches all over Haiti were full as people gathered to pray and worship from 6 a.m. to noon each day.
Music and the message flowed into Bapist Mission Hospital via a sound system.
Fasting ended with rejoicing.
Chaplains continue to serve in Haiti even now.
Thousands have accepted Christ since the earthquake.
Churches are beginning to flourish.

Even into 2011, Rapid Response Team chaplains continue to serve.
Franklin Graham held a Festival of Hope on January 8-9. 2011.
A total of 80,000 attended the two-day event.
While in Haiti, Franklin Graham participated in an Operation Christmas Child gift distribution.
Franklin Graham loved spending time with the children of Haiti.
A simple shoe box showed the children that someone around the world loves them.
