My Hope Dominican Republic

By   •   March 22, 2010

Some 45,000 Christians shared their faith with neighbors old and young.
The My Hope World Evangelism through Television project took place March 18-20.
Televised Gospel messages from Franklin or Billy Graham are the heart of the My Hope ministry.
These programs also featured testimonies from St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujols and musician Juan Luis Guerra.
Hosts shared their own stories of coming to faith and invited those present to make a commitment to Jesus.
Power outtages are common so people gathered near generators.
More than 3,500 churches participated in the My Hope event, and some 30,000 homes participated.
Preparations began last spring as leaders trained Christians how to share their faith with others.
The Dominican Republic shares the Caribbean island of Hispaniola with Haiti.
Christian leaders in the Dominican Republic had seen other My Hope projects successfully implemented in South America, and desired the same for their country.
This was the largest evangelistic outreach in the nation's history.
Follow-up efforts are now being made to help these new believers become involved in a local church.
Attendance was so high at the Harvest Sunday service at Iglesia de dios centro de oracion, the church had to move the service to a basketball court.
