Yes, I have changed in some ways over the years; hopefully we all do, as God corrects us and teaches us about the way He wants us to live. This, incidentally, is one reason He gave the Bible to us. The Bible says, “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness” (2 Timothy 3:16).

How have I changed over the years? For one thing, I’ve come to see that God not only created the whole human race, but He loves the whole human race. I grew up in a part of our country that often treated African-Americans as second-class citizens, and like most people then, I accepted this view without ever really thinking about it. But as I studied the Bible and also met African-Americans who were far more gifted than I was, God began to change my heart and mind. Hopefully, my words and deeds helped others change also.

I could cite other examples — but more important to me are the ways I haven’t changed over the years! For example, I haven’t changed in my commitment to Jesus Christ; instead, it’s grown stronger. Nor have I changed in my commitment to my calling as an evangelist, to tell others about the peace and hope they can have through faith in Christ.

Always be open to what God wants to teach you, and the ways He wants to change you. But don’t drift away from Christ or your commitment to Him. Instead, learn to walk with Him every day, thankful for His salvation and His gift of new life.
