I’m thankful for your caution, because you are correct—not everything you hear people say about God is right. They may be merely ignorant about God, or they may deliberately be trying to deceive other people—but the result is the same.
This is why I urge you to discover Jesus—who He was, what He taught and what He did for us. You will find out about Him in the four Gospels at the beginning of the New Testament, each of which gives an account or portrait of His life. I often suggest people begin by reading through the Gospel of John, because it was written to help us discover Jesus (see John 20:30-31).
What will you find out about Jesus there? First, you will discover that He wasn’t just another philosopher or religious teacher; He was God in human flesh. And because He was both God and man, He alone is able to show us what God is like. The Bible says, “No one has ever seen God, but God the One and Only, who is at the Father’s side, has made him known” (John 1:18).
Most of all, you will discover that God loves you—and the proof is that Jesus Christ was willing to become the sacrifice for your sins. The Bible says, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16). Make Christ the center of your life by opening your heart to Him, and then discover life’s greatest joy—the joy of walking with God every day.
