Q:

Do you believe God still speaks to people, revealing new truths about Himself and about life to them? If so, shouldn't we be more open to changing our ideas about religion and morals, and always be ready to accept new beliefs?

A:

I cannot agree with you, and I hope you won’t be misled by those who say God changes His mind about morality, or that He reveals things to us today that contradict what He taught His people many centuries ago.

You see, God has already revealed to us everything we need to know about Him and His will. As the Bible says, God “has given us everything we need for life and godliness, through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness” (2 Peter 1:3).

God doesn’t change His mind, telling us one thing about Himself to one generation but revealing something far different to another. The Bible reminds us, “I the Lord do not change” (Malachi 3:6). What He told His people thousands of years ago is still true, for “Your word, O Lord, is eternal; it stands firm in the heavens” (Psalm 119:89).

Where do we find God’s truth? We find it in the book He has given to us, the Bible. Most of all, through His written Word we discover the living Word of God: Jesus Christ. He alone can bring us the forgiveness we need, and He alone can bring us into union with our Heavenly Father. Open your life to Him, and then let His Word be your guide for living, for “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path” (Psalm 119:105).
