Some of us were talking about serial killers, and the question came up about whether or not God could forgive them. Most of us felt it wouldn't be right for them to go to heaven like everyone else, but what would you say?

Human life is sacred in God’s eyes, and deliberately murdering someone is a terrible act—so terrible that the Old Testament decreed the murderer must pay for it with his life. One of the Ten Commandments declares, “You shall not murder” (Exodus 20:13).

The amazing thing, however, is that God can forgive anyone who truly repents and puts their faith and trust in Christ for their salvation—even a murderer! Do you remember the Apostle Paul’s background? At one time, he hated Christians and was responsible for the death of some of them: “When the blood of your martyr Stephen was shed, I stood there giving my approval” (Acts 22:20). And yet when Paul gave his life to Christ, God forgave him and used him to spread the Gospel throughout the Roman Empire.

Never forget: None of us deserves God’s forgiveness and salvation. No matter who we are, the Bible says we all have sinned, and we all deserve only God’s judgment. But the good news is this: God loves us, and Christ came into the world to save us. When we repent of our sins and receive Him into our hearts, God has promised to forgive us—completely and fully.

Have you made your peace with God? Have you turned in faith to Christ and committed your life to Him? Don’t trust in your own goodness for your salvation, but trust Christ and what He did on the cross for you. Make your commitment to Him today.

  1. Sandra says:

In life we all deserve a second chance. Serial killers can still repent from their evil acts and Jesus Christ is waiting for them.Jesus loves everyone unconditionally that why in the book of Isaiah 1:8 come even if your sins are as red as blood but I shall cleanse them into as white as snow.

  2. Francisco Garcia says:

Remember this Stacy, just like the rest of us, you too will be judged so dont be so dismissive of what other people believe in regards to serial killers… they should pay with their lives for what theyve done… who are you to make excuses for them?

  3. Clay Ables says:

Is there a place on this site to ask guidance or advice on faith and struggles.

    1. BGEA says:

Clay, if you’d like, you can visit our site, Peace With God, and look for the chat button on the page to connect with someone on our team:

  4. lynn hull says:

Are you kidding me, what a bunch of bull…. is he going to forgive hitler.

  5. stacy says:

I do believe GOD forgives serial killers if they surrender to him, however it’s hard to understand why he would, but then again a serial killer is not in the right frame of mind. There’s a chemical imbalance and I do believe it’s evil also. People can say all they want that they don’t think GOD will forgive a serial murderer and keep thinking all you want but it’s GOD’S choice and he’s the ultimate judge.

  6. Jackeline Perez says:

I’m sorry but I too believe that a serial killer should not be forgiven. They kill alot of people for pleasure. They feel no sympathy, remorse, or guilt. The things that must of them do to their victems are so gruesom. I believe is pure evil. They are like demons. They should pay for the lives they took forever. That is what I believe. To carry all that evil and act on it as well, is to me, unforgivable. Simply my opinion and belief. The people they torcherd and killed sufferd greatly and they were all a precious life. That should not be forgiven.

    1. Ashley says:

Hey Jackeline I read your comment and felt led to share my thoughts on the matter. I understand where you’re coming from, and It’s one of the most difficult things to understand about God’s love, especially when we remember we are called to love like Him. It’s true that people who commit unthinkable crimes for their own pleasure carry and wear evil like a crown. However, in these instances I don’t believe we are meant to dwell on whether or not people like this deserve to be forgiven but rather we are meant to seek understanding of God’s love; even of the most depraved individuals Our purpose in this world isn’t to decide which individuals are deserving of God’s love because He has already declared that answer through Jesus and a cross.

    2. Stephanie says:

I really want to say this…i really do not think that we are born Evil. Instead we are born Good and the Evil that is in the world pushes its way into the baby who although born innocent….must endure like all of us the never-ending lifelong temptation of the devil who’s only job is to steal, kill, and destroy lives. We must remember the complexity of someone’s upbringing and other factors such as the horrific cchild abuse acts we hear about and worse….Who are we to judge anyone. Jesus said: whoever is clean and free of sin cast the first stone. For all have sinned and fallen short of Gods glory and lean not onto your own understanding. It is hard but we must have faith that God is still on throne. Hate the sin, not the sinner…

    3. Caroline Salzman says:

We may feel that way but the end only God can make this call. If that person is truly sick and sorry and turns there life over to God, God is just and says He will forgive. It’s God’s choice but when we read God’s word, we see a lot of things that shouldn’t be forgiven in our eyes. But Jesus forgave those who crucified Him and they were sorrowful and asked what they needed to do to be saved. They repented and were baptized and added to God’s family. That’s God’s love and mercy. He wants us to do the same. So He will do the same for us. If we don’t forgive He wont forgive us.

  7. Travis Nelson Beaver says:

Im willing to hear more about God.

    1. Ashley says:

Travis it’s so exciting to hear someone say they want to know more about God! That is all that’s needed to allow God into our lives. The desire to know more and the will to seek that knowledge. There’s a lot of ways you can find out more but the best way is to open up His word. If you have a bible I recommend starting with the New Testament or if you don’t you can go to a site like Bible Gateway. Message back if you have questions.

    2. Caroline Salzman says:

That’s awesome!!! What state are you in. I can try to set up a bible study for you.

  8. Janice says:

wish I knew I was forgiven for all my sins

    1. Glenn says:

Janice.. I came across your message on a Billy Graham site where you said you ‘wish you knew you were forgiven of all your sins’.. In case you have that doubt still.. I want you to know.. That if you asked Jesus to forgive you and you’ve repented from what ever sin(s) you may have or had.. Then God’s Word says you are forgiven.. and that God remembers your sins no more. Satan will always be there to remind you of your past and your mistakes.. but don’t listen to him.. He is just a liar and a thief.. Ask Jesus for forgiveness Janice.. and He will forgive you.. Completely!! 🙂

  9. Sharon says:

I wish i could just get a hug from God nd hear him say, ‘everything is fine’

    1. Glenn says:

Hi Sharon.. I saw your message you left on a Billy Graham site today from a couple of years ago.. If you are still needing that ‘hug’ or need another one.. God’s sending you a BIG HUG right now and wants you to know EVERYTHING WILL BE ALRIGHT.. Whatever you are going through.. Know this.. God knows of it and He’s got it.. God loves you Sharon and all is going to be alright.. He wants you to know that right now.. today! 🙂

    2. Wanda Davis says:

What is a vessel of wrath fitted for destruction?
