Unexpected Tornadoes Leave Path of Destruction in Mississippi
Ashland, Mississippi, was one of numerous cities hit by a string of deadly storms across the South and Midwest around Christmas. The National Weather Service estimated 55 tornadoes were formed in a seven-day span.
Surrounded by destruction, Billy Graham Rapid Response Team chaplains Al and Toni New pray with a resident.
One chaplain said many trees in the area were "like toothpicks standing up out of the ground."
Be praying for residents now having to face cold weather while cleaning up and repairing what can be salvaged after the storm.
More damage from the EF3 tornado.
Debris strewn about.
Numerous buildings were shredded to pieces.
Chaplains pray with a storm survivor.
Within days of the Dec. 23 tornado, Billy Graham Rapid Response Team chaplains were in the area, along with sister ministry, Samaritan's Purse.
Cars, buildings and trailers were crumpled in the tornado's path.
"We're praying for these people ... They have not had a Christmas holiday; one that they can sit down and enjoy," said Billy Graham Rapid Response Team chaplain Al New. "We pray right now that they be lifted up and encouraged in these hard times."
