Have you ever asked yourself why you don’t apply this idea to any other part of your life? For example, would you honestly say it doesn’t matter what the pharmacist puts in your prescription, as long as she’s sincere? Or it doesn’t matter what you put in your gas tank, as long as you’re sincere?
In other words, we may be sincere, but we also may be sincerely wrong. Suppose you were driving down a road and came to a raging river. Ahead was what appeared to be a sturdy bridge, but in reality its foundations had been eaten away and its girders weakened by rust. You might sincerely believe it would hold you, but if you drove across, the bridge would collapse. Your sincerity couldn’t save you.
This is true in everyday life, but it’s also true of God. You see, God hasn’t left us to wander around in the dark, wondering what He’s like or guessing how He wants us to live. Instead, He has revealed Himself to us, and once we realize this, we’ll never be the same.
One way He’s done this is through the world He made. No matter where we look, we see signs of God’s incredible wisdom and power. But most of all He showed us what He is like by becoming a man: Jesus Christ.
Don’t be deceived, and don’t gamble with your soul. Instead, look at Jesus Christ and put your faith and trust in Him. He alone was God in human flesh, and He alone could say, “Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father” (John 14:9).
