Meet James and Shirley Dobson at the Billy Graham Library

By   •   February 9, 2015

James and Shirley Dobson have been married for more than 50 years and have mentored countless families and individuals in the areas of marriage and parenting.

This Saturday, from 1 to 3 p.m., renowned authors and speakers James and Shirley Dobson will make an appearance at the Billy Graham Library. The Dobsons will sign copies of their books, Your Legacy: The Greatest Gift by Dr. Dobson, and Welcome to Our Table by Shirley and Danae Dobson.

Dr. Dobson is the host of the radio program Dr. James Dobson’s Family Talk and a former adviser to three U.S. presidents on family matters. Shirley is nationally recognized for her leadership in women’s affairs, with Christian organizations and on behalf of families everywhere. She has served as chair of the National Day of Prayer Task Force since 1991.

As a child psychologist, Dr. Dobson has invested his career in equipping moms and dads—and strengthening their marriages—so they can successfully navigate the waters of matrimony and parenthood.

And when it comes to mothers and fathers, Dr. Dobson has stood by the principle that parenthood is a holy calling—that it is the mission of every parent to introduce their children to Jesus Christ as Savior and facilitate their growth as disciples.

“It’s harder now to raise kids than it’s ever been because the culture is at war with families,” Dr. Dobson once said. “There is nothing more important than parents passing on a generational legacy of faith and values to their children.”

In Your Legacy, Dr. Dobson traces his family history as a testament to God’s work in their lives through the prayers and actions of relatives. These prayers, he explained, ensured that the spiritual legacy of a deep Christian faith—and the assurance of heaven after death—transcended generations in his family.

“We are very excited about Dr. and Mrs. Dobson coming for the book signing this Saturday. It’s been an absolute pleasure for us at BGEA to know them for many years,” said Tom Phillips, vice president of the Billy Graham Library.

“They are so appreciated for standing for values in the public square and the training they have provided to promote healthy marriages and families over the decades. We at the Library are very proud to host this couple who have contributed so greatly to the Church, and to our nation.”

Dr. Dobson has written over 40 other books, including Dare to Discipline and The Strong-Willed Child.

Books will be available for purchase in Ruth’s Attic bookstore, or you can bring your own. There is a limit of two signed items per person. For more information, call 704-401-3256 or email libraryevents@bgea.org.
