Photos: Will Graham at Ferguson’s ‘We Are One’ Unity Event
On Jan. 25, members of the Ferguson, Missouri, community gathered for "We Are One," an event designed to unite the people of Ferguson and beyond.
Will Graham was one of several people invited to speak at "We Are One."
Pastor and speaker Dr. Tony Evans shared a powerful message on Sunday.
Believers from the Ferguson community poured out their hearts during a time of worship.
Will Graham was invited to speak at "We Are One" on behalf of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association. In late 2014, a total of 81 crisis-trained Billy Graham Rapid Response Team chaplains prayed with more than 1,200 people in Ferguson. The chaplains deployed following violence and unrest in the wake of a grand jury's decision not to indict a police officer in the fatal shooting of an unarmed teenager.
"As a church we've lost our first love," Will Graham said at the Sunday event. "Instead of putting Jesus Christ at the forefront of everything we do, we put ourselves up front. My friends, we need to repent. As leaders, how can we ever expect to have the community experience repentance if we don't repent ourselves?"
Many members of the Ferguson community have made efforts to unify the divided city through the powerful love of Jesus Christ.
"It's not just a problem in Ferguson, or a problem in St. Louis, or in America, but around the world," Will Graham said. "The church has fallen asleep. Now is the time to wake out of that sleep!"
