BGEA: Over the last couple of decades, the Lord has given you a multifaceted ministry. Can you describe your journey for us?
Troccoli: I met the Lord in 1978 and just started singing immediately. In 1980, I was discovered by Amy Grant’s and Michael W. Smith’s manager in Long Island, where I’m from. Then, I started singing backup for Amy (Grant). By 1982, I was a national artist with my first album, Stubborn Love. Over the last 27 years, God has walked me through so many things. Earlier in my career and in my walk, I prayed that I would be in the center of His will concerning my voice. These days, I am speaking as much as I am singing. It’s been an incredible ride. Some of it was painful, but I’ve had a lot of joy.
BGEA: When did you start getting opportunities to speak?
Troccoli: In the late 90’s, I was at a women’s event in Grand Rapids. At that point I had done mostly just concerts. For this particular event, I was asked to sing for about 40 minutes. Like I often say, I told the audience, “God is writing our story.” Then I started sharing part of my story – like the loss of both of my parents to cancer and my struggle with bulimia. This went on for about 10 minutes. At the end, there was this ovation I could tell in my spirit was different from others in the past. It was not performance-based; it was more of a “thank you for sharing/this encouraged me” kind of ovation. It was at that moment that I knew this was a new day for me. When I was singing in the bars in my late teens, I never would have thought that I would be speaking one day. It’s all the overflow of what God is doing in my life. So, these days, I half speak, half sing.
BGEA: What else are you up to these days?
Troccoli: Just completed a 40-city event tour with Ellie Lofaro, my friend and co-writer of Spagetti for the Soul: A Feast of Faith, Hope and Love. I’ve been doing women’s conferences over the last 11 years. I’m getting ready to do an album called Heart Songs, which is going to be a recording of some of the old standards. I’ve missed singing beautiful love songs, so I’m excited about that. I’m also working on a new title called Look Up. I’m doing some things with Jennifer Rothschild and some crisis pregnancy banquets. There is also an annual KT and Friends cruise that I am excited to say has been happening for 12 years! Essentially, I’m doing what I love, because he’s given me a story to tell. And I’ll tell it until He tells me to stop.
