Renewing Hearts, Renewing the City

George Stulac, Senior Pastor of Memorial Presbyterian Church, says this has been the heart’s cry of his church for a very long time. In fact, the crux of its vision has been built on the belief that “St. Louis can be a truly great city through the renewing power of the Gospel.”

“We are so interested in and committed to things that will have an impact on the whole urban area and renew the culture here through the Gospel of Christ,” said Stulac. “We also want to see evangelism in St. Louis, whether it’s through this church, another church or Rock The River.”

For Friendly Temple Church, Rock the River is an extension of the community-enrichment efforts they make. From clothing drives to financial counseling to at-risk teen outreaches, this church has their hand in the greater St. Louis area.

“The Rock the River Tour is highly anticipated by our church and community because we sense the need for a revival among our young people,” said Andre Alexander, Youth Coordinator. “We want to believe that all young people are not ‘bad’ and should be written off. We must be diligent about a way to reach them collectively, keep them connected by nurturing them, and equip them to disciple their friends.”

Alexander is humbled that God would move in such a way to bring an event like Rock the River to St. Louis for revival. But that is not the only thing that excites him.

“On Sunday, the most segregated day of the week, we get to watch a young, diverse crowd worship together. And they’ll have one thing in common: Jesus Christ.”
